Youth at Work staff welcome Shelly Carpenter as new Program Facilitator

We would like to extend a warm welcome our new Program Facilitator, Shelly Carpenter. Shelly brings a wealth of experience to the program as a teacher and youth worker. We are excited to have Shelly join our team full-time as of Tuesday, April 26th 2011.

Hello all,

Youth at Work will be holding interviews for our next program intake starting the week of June 6th, 2011. Pending funding renewal from Service Canada, our next intake will begin July 11th, 2011.

In order to apply for the Youth at Work program, youth must get a referral from an employment Case Manager. Case Managers can be contacted at any Lower Mainland Employment Resource Centre. Welcome Clayton!

The staff at Youth At Work would like to welcome Clayton Mollica as our new Assistant Facilitator! Clayton brings a diversity of community development experience to this role, and he is very excited to become part of the YAW team.

Clayton has previously worked as a researcher and teaching assistant in UBC's department of sociology, and has also worked as Lead Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Coquitlam's Department of Parks and Recreation. He spent this past summer in Toronto working as a Life Skills Counselor for Adults with Special Needs.

Clayton is passionate about building strong communities, where everyone is able to contribute!

Youth at Work is currently scheduling intake interviews for the next program start date: January 10, 2011. In addition to a current resume, interested candidates are encouraged to obtain a referral from a Case Manager at an Employment Assistance Service Centre. A list of EAS's in your area can be obtained by clicking on the following link:

If you already have a referral from a Case Manager please call 604-629-0007 to schedule an intake interview. Those interested in the program are encouraged to arrange an interview as early as possible in securing a time. Interviews will be scheduled until Tuesday, December 21, 2010.

New YAW Lead Facilitator

It has been announced that Shawna Smith will be taking over for Arita Atwal as Lead Facilitator of Youth at Work starting August 30, 2010. The Youth at Work staff have enjoyed working with Arita who will be going back to school in September to pursue her long term career goals. Program staff wish Arita the best in her future endeavors and will miss her very much.

Shawna is currently the Job Developer at Youth Spot Employment Centre, however, the position was 1 of 2 positions temporarily put in place in response to the economic downturn and will end on August 20, 2010. In this role and others, Shawna has excelled at building relationships with employers which in turn offered employment opportunities for youth. Program staff are looking forward to working with Shawna.
