Final Youth at Work Session: January 9 - March 28 2012

Hello all,

Youth at Work's Jan 9 - March 28 2012 session is well underway, and youth participants are making strong progress on their employment goals thus far.

Unfortunately, Youth at Work will not be running a session after March 28th 2012.

We appreciate the support of all our employer and community partners, and wish all those affiliated with our program (past and present) the best with their future endeavours.

Hello all,

Youth at Work will be holding interviews for our next program intake starting the week of December 5th, 2011. Our next intake will begin January 9th, 2011.

In order to apply for the Youth at Work program, youth must get a referral from an employment Case Manager. Youth can book an appointment with a Case Manager at any Lower Mainland Employment Resource Centre. Interviews Complete for October 11th, 2011 Intake

Hello all,

We have completed interviews for our October 11, 2011 intake. Thanks to all those who applied and we look forward to our next 12-week session.

We will be scheduling interviews for our January 2012 intake starting in early December 2011. Those interested in applying for the next Youth at Work intake - or in getting general job search and employment support - can contact a Case Manager at an Employment Resource Centre. Youth at Work began working with two new employment partners this past intake - Caffe Capri and Community Thrift and Vintage. These employers have provided valuable work experience for program participants and we appreciate their ongoing support.

Youth at Work staff welcome Shelly Carpenter as new Program Facilitator

We would like to extend a warm welcome our new Program Facilitator, Shelly Carpenter. Shelly brings a wealth of experience to the program as a teacher and youth worker. We are excited to have Shelly join our team full-time as of Tuesday, April 26th 2011.

Welcome Clayton!

The staff at Youth At Work would like to welcome Clayton Mollica as our new Program Assistant! Clayton brings a diversity of community development experience to this role, and he is very excited to become part of the YAW team.

Clayton has previously worked as a researcher and teaching assistant in UBC's department of sociology, and has also worked as Lead Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Coquitlam's Department of Parks and Recreation. He spent this past summer in Toronto working as a Life Skills Counselor for Adults with Special Needs.

Clayton is passionate about building strong communities, where everyone is able to contribute!

In addition to a current resume, interested candidates are encouraged to obtain a referral from a Case Manager at an Employment Assistance Service Centre. A list of EAS's in your area can be obtained by clicking on the following link:

New YAW Lead Facilitator

It has been announced that Shawna Smith will be taking over for Arita Atwal as Lead Facilitator of Youth at Work starting August 30, 2010. The Youth at Work staff have enjoyed working with Arita who will be going back to school in September to pursue her long term career goals. Program staff wish Arita the best in her future endeavors and will miss her very much.

Shawna is currently the Job Developer at Youth Spot Employment Centre, however, the position was 1 of 2 positions temporarily put in place in response to the economic downturn and will end on August 20, 2010. In this role and others, Shawna has excelled at building relationships with employers which in turn offered employment opportunities for youth. Program staff are looking forward to working with Shawna.

Youth at Work Zine

After consulting with particpants currently in the program, it was decided by staff that a Youth at Work zine will be created. While still in its early stages, it was agreed by all that the zine will include youth art and writings, as well as a resource list. Completion of the first issue is set for the end of September.
